I wanted news....
The Jays signed lefty pitcher Jeff Beliveau (who I’m sure I’ll call Jean at least 75% of the time) (thankfully Minor Leaguer figures he’ll do the same thing) to a minor league contract, with a spring training invite.
Clue the twitter complaints about cheap Rogers, but he’s just a depth move. And one I kind of like.
Beliveau (who really should wear number 4), will be 30 in January. He’s pitched in 58 games in the majors and has a 4.00 ERA. In 45 innings, he has 47 strikeouts and 21 walks.
Career he’s actually been about as good against right-handers (.279/.356/.413), as left-handers (.243/.341/.459), in pretty limited time.
In 2014, he was pretty good for the Rays, with a 2.63 ERA in 24 innings.
In 281 minor league games, he has a 2.67 ERA in 449 innings, with 206 walks and 605 strikeouts. Lots of strikeouts, lots of walks.
I have doubts we’ll see much of him in the MLB, unless he has a very good spring.
