Blue Jays rumors: Dexter Fowler

MLB: World Series-Chicago Cubs at Cleveland Indians David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Jon Heyman, at Fanrag Sports, tells us that the Jays offered Dexter Fowler a 4-year $60 contract.

Fowler seems to be asking for $18 million a year, so the Jays are in the ballpark. I’d be pretty happy if they can get a deal done. I’ve never been in the middle of a ball player’s contract negotiation, but in baseball terms $3 million isn’t all that much, they should be able to get together on something.

I’d much much rather have Fowler than Bruce or Granderson or any of the other names out there.

The rumors will be hot and heavy this week with the Winter meeting going on. I imagine we’ll have more than a rumor a day.

I guess the other news of note is that Russell Martin says he’ll play for Canada in the WBC (at catcher, not shortstop). Glad to see that, but, I’m reserving the right to change my mind if he gets hurt.
