Edwin Encarnacion is having a tough start to the 2016 season, or at least a tough start to the spring. He is going to be held out of games for another week with an oblique issue. The Jays are calling it minor, but with the season starting in under three weeks, I'd like to see him get some at bats in soon.
He would likely need just ten days worth of playing time to be ready to start the season, but oblique issues tend to take longer to recover from than teams guess.
I would imagine that, if he is unable to start the season, we would see the Blue Jays carry an extra pitcher, and give DH at bats to Chris Colabello, as well as having Jose Bautista and Troy Tulowizki DH some. That would allow the backups to get some work early in the season
I'm not going to worry too much about Edwin. He won't need more than a handful of spring at bats to be ready to go. And, if he does need a few days in the DL, our offence will be still be great. But the sooner we see him play the better I'll feel.
