Marcus Stroman was great today. 8 innings (I was surprised when he came out for the 8th), 3 singles allowed, 2 earned. 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. The most noticeable thing was the 17 ground outs to 2 fly outs The box score says 1 fly out, but Kevin Pillar made a nice catch in center (on the track) and Michael Saunders caught one in left back-to-back in the 7th inning.
His only slight hiccup was in the 4th inning. With 1 out, he had a pitch come in a little too tight on Alex Rodriguez, glancing off (I think) his stomach. That was followed by a single by Mark Teixeira and a single hit on the ground to Ryan Goins. Goins should have made to play (I can't believe it wasn't called an error). Carlos Beltran followed that with another ground ball to Goins, that they almost turned into an inning ending double play, but ended up just being a force scoring Rodriguez. A pitch that got away from Russell Martin scored the Yankees second run. I likely would have called it a passed ball, but it was ruled a wild pitch.
Other than that Marcus was almost perfect.
Roberto Osuna pitched a clean 9th for his 4th save of the year.
On offense, we did just enough. Josh Donaldson crushed a 3-run homer in the 5th and Troy Tulowitzki had a solo homer in the 6th.
We had 8 hits. 2 each for Kevin Pillar, Donaldson and Michael Saunders (it was nice to see Saunders leg out a double). Edwin Encarnacion and Tulowitzki had a hit each. Jose Bautista walked twice and Russell Martin once. On the negitive side, Chris Colabello was 0 for 4 and Ryan Goins 0 for 3 (though he did hit a deep fly to center).
Jays of the Day: Stroman (.220 WPA) and Donaldson (.324).
No one got the Suckage number, Colabello had the low mark at -.067.
We had 1522 comments in the game thread. Eric H led us to victory. Good work Eric.
