The Toronto Blue Jays have placed pitcher Brett Cecil on the 15-day disabled list with what is being reported as a left triceps strain.
The announcement, made just prior to their Sunday afternoon matchup against the Texas Rangers, comes after Manager John Gibbons told reports that Cecil left his appearance Saturday night feeling "a little bit tender".
The Jays' 29-year-old former-starter-former-closer-former-all-star has had himself a rough season to date, already. The lefty is the owner of a 5.23 ERA through 16 appearances, with a 3.76 FIP and 4.47 xFIP. These numbers are up dramatically from what fans have come accustomed to over the last three seasons.
In a related move, the Jays have called up righty Dustin Antolin. If you don't know who that is, I'm not surprised. The 26-year old Mililani, Hawaii product was an 11th Round draft pick of the team in 2008. He's made 12 appearances for the Buffalo Bisons and has a 2.70 ERA and a 3.05 FIP in AAA this season.
And... if you need more, there is this tweet.
From last night: Impressive stuff again from Dustin Antolin in a closer role. Velo at 94/95 logs his third straight save. #bluejays #bisons
