We have had an interesting couple of weeks. Unfortunately interesting doesn't equal good.the Blue Jays are 4-8 over their last 12 games. The pitchers had a 4.06 ERA in that time.

Marcus Stroman |
Stroman made 2 starts, one of them was okish, one was terrible. In the ok one, he went 6 innings and only allowed 2 earned, but there were 2 more unearned and 8 hits allowed. The bad game was, well, bad. He had some bad luck but there were a lot of hard hit balls off him too. in total, he was 0-1with a 6.94 ERA. Batters hit.389/.431/.537 with no home runs, 4 walks an 7 strikeouts in 11.2 innings. I hope he's got it out of his system. I don't know what was going on, but it did seem like everything he threw was about thigh high. |

Aaron Sanchez |
Aaron made 2 starts, one was very good, one was bad. The good one had 7 innings of 3 hit ball (we'll ignore the 5 walks). The bad one had 6 earned in 6.2 innings (2 of the runs scored after he left the game. In all,1-0 with a 4.61 ERA. Batters hit .213/.339/.362 against him, with 1 home run, 9 walks and 11 strikeouts in 13.2 innings. Not a bad batting line, but too many walks. |

Marco Estrada |
Marco made 3 starts, 2 were excellent, one wasn't great. With our offense, he ended up with a 0-0 record, but a 2.57 ERA in 21 innings. Batters hit .149/.220/.270 against him with 2 home runs, 7 walks and 22 strikeouts. His strikeouts are way up this year, averaging 8.9 per 9 innings, after being at 6.5 last year. I wonder if that is the difference between Russell Martin catching over Dioner Navarro. |
J.A. Happ
Happ's had 2 starts, one that was very good, 8.2 innings, of 6 hit ball. He came within an out of a complete game shut out. The other one you likely remember. 2 innings, 8 earned. .In total 1-1, 6.75 ERA. Batters hit .317/.370/.488 with 2 home runs, 4 walks and 7 strikeouts in 10.2. Not sure if one great start and one awful start should add up to a down arrow or an around one, but we'll go down. |
R.A. Dickey |
Dickey made 3 starts. One was very good (8 innings of shutout ball), one was good with bad defense behind him (7 innings, 2 earned, 2 unearned) and one bad (6 innings, 5 runs, 4 earned). In all 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA. Batters hit .218/.247/.385 with 4 home runs, 3 walks an 15 strikeouts in 21 innings. His strikeout numbers have jumped over last year. I'm going to give him an up arrow, in part because he was so much better than he has been this year. |
Brett Cecil |
Brett pitched in 1 game, getting 2 outs with 1 hit and went on the DL. He's got for a month at very least, I'd be surprised if it was much less than 2 months. |
Roberto Osuna |
Roberto pitched in 5 games. He's been very good. I wish we would give him more leads to protect. . 5 innings, 2 saves, last night's win.He also had a blown save. In all batters hit .125/.250/.188 in 20 PA. 2 hits, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts. He looked great last night. |
Drew Storen |
Drew pitched in 4 games. 2 went well, 2 well badly. He took 1 loss (in the game Osuna had the blown save). Pitched a total of 3 innings, giving up 4 earned. Batters hit .286/.412/.643 with 2 doubles, 1 home run. 2 walks and 5 strikeouts in 17 PA. I don't know what the answer is. |
Jesse Chavez |
Jesse's pitched in 4 games. He gave up 2 hit in each of the 4 appearances. He had a blown save/loss. In 3.2, he allowed 3 earned. Batters hit .444/.524/.778 with 2 home runs, 2 walks, 1 strikeout and there was the hit batter. That you might remember, but then there were a few other things happening that game. Currently serving his suspension. |
Gavin Floyd |
Gavin pitched in 5 games. Had a loss and a hold. The loss was off a home run in extra innings, in his second inning of work. In 7.1 innings he allowed 2 earned runs (2.45 ERA). Batters hit .192/.250/.346 in 28 PA, 1 home run, 1 walk with 8 strikeouts. Other than the home run, he was great. But it was a bad moment to give up a home run. If it wasn't a walk off home run, I'd give him an up arrow. |
Joe Biagini |
Joe pitched in 6 games,.6.2 innings in total, and didn't give up an earned run. He got the save, last night. He was great in a high pressure spot. Batters hit .095/.130/.095, with just 2 singles, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 23 PA. Best rule 5 pick up in years. |
Dustin Antolin |
Was called up, pitched 2 innings, allowed 4 hits, 2 earned, 1 home run, 1 walk, with 1 strikeout and then got sent back down. I hope we see him again. I'd hate that to be his one shot at the major. |
Pat Venditte |
One of the up and down squad. It seems to be the new thing in MLB that teams bring guys up and send them down more. Pitched in 1 game, going 2.1 innings (and, surprisingly he wasn't send down). He allowed 3 hits, 1 double, 1 strikeout. 3 runs scored but none of them earned. |
Chad Girodo |
It looks like Chad will be staying up for a bit. He pitched in 6 games. In 4 innings, he's allowed 5 hits. Batters hit .313/.353/.563 in 17 PA. He gave up a double and a home run, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. He's been good against lefties, they have hit .133/.133/.133 against him. Unfortunately, even a LOOGY faces the odd right-hander. |
