Two home runs from Edwin Encarnacion, Jays beat Orioles

Walk-offs are great, but winning is better.

What a day for Edwin Encarnacion. 3 for 3. 2 home runs, 2 walks, 5 RBI. He gets more than his share of cray when he's slumping so I'm thrilled when he's going well.

That was the offensive day that we've been waiting to see. We had 13 hits and 8 walks. This is the offense we expeccted to see this year.  Michael Saunders also had a home runs, going back-to-back with Edwin in the bottom of the 8th. Saunders also joined Edwin with 3 hits today.

Kevin Pillar and Darwin Barney had two hits each. Ezequiel Carrerra looked good leading off, putting down a bunt single, in the first, and taking 2 walks. The only starters not to get a hit were Justin Smoak (but he took 2 walks) and Josh Thole. Even Ryan Goins had a hit (a triple that was in and out of Adam Jones' glove deep in center field) and a walk.

J.A. Happ had a tough day, battling though 7 innings, allowing 8 hits, 4 earned, with no walks, 5 strikeouts, but giving up 3 home runs. Machado, Davis and Rickard took him deep. Happ wasn't very sharp, but he didn't have to be.

Joe Biagini started the 8th inning, with a 5 runs lead and managed to make us sweat. He gave up 3 hits and a walk and left the game with the bases loaded.  Gavin Floyd came in, and gave up a sac fly to make it a 3-run game and then gave up a walk to load the bases, before getting Francisco Pena (why didn't the O's pinch hit Wietters in that spot? Thank God they didn't) to hit into a double play.

Jason Grilli pitch a drama free 9th.

We really needed a blow out win, even if it wasn't totally stress free.

Jays of the Day: Edwin (.365 WPA), Goins (.149), Pillar (.104), Floyd (.157) and I'm giving one to Carrera for his .083, even with the caught stealing, part because it is his birthday.

Suckage: Biagini (-.167), Happ (-.119) and Thole (.096).
