Homers from Encarnacion and Travis help Jays beat Red Sox

The Jays win their 4th in a row.

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox

Blue Jays 5 Red Sox 2

What a great start from R.A. Dickey. 6.2 innings, just 2 hits. He didn't give up his first hit until David Ortiz doubled to start the 6th inning. He had 5 walks, but then the plate umpire seemed to be having troubles calling even straight pitches, so he had a lot of troubles with Dickey's pitches.

The Red Sox did get a run in the first inning. Mookie Betts started things off with a walk and he moved to second and then third on ground outs. And a passed ball scored Betts. It would take Dickey 3 more outs to get out of the inning, after hitting Ortiz with a pitch and walking Henley Ramirez.

Our bullpen did it's job. Jason Grilli relieved R.A. with 1 on and 2 out in the 7th and got out of it with a hard hit ground ball at Devon Travis.

Joe Biagini had a bit of trouble in the 8th giving up a walk, an Ortiz double and a Ramirez ground out, to allow the Red Sox their second run. Biagini got the second out of the inning on a Travis Shaw strikeout and Gibby brought in Roberto Osuna, who finished the inning and pitched around a couple of singles to in the 9th to get his 13th save of the season.

On offense, we did enough. We got 3 runs in 7 innings, against our old friend, David Price. Price gave up 6 hits and 4 runs, but the big hit was Edwin Encarnacion's 2-run homer in the first. We got our 3rd run against Price in the fourth inning. Devon Travis reached second on a Travis Shaw throwing error, Kevin Pillar moved him to 3rd with a single and he scored on Darwin Barney's double play grounder.

We scored 2 more in the 8th on Devon Travis' 1st home run of the season. It wasn't a cheapy.

We had some very nice defense too. Barney made this great play:

He also 'climbed the ladder' to make a great grab on a Dustin Pedroia line drive that looked to be an easy double. Josh Donaldson also made a terrific bare-handed play on a softly hit ground ball.

Jays of the Day are Dickey (.314 WPA), Travis (.114) and Edwin (.095).

No Suckage Jays.
