Tigers 3 Blue Jays 2

All good things must come to an end, but, when I saw today's pitching match, I figured our win streak wouldn't be ending today.

Matt Boyd came into today's game with a 6.44 ERA and yet the Jays were only able to score 1 run against him in 5 innings. That came in the 5th inning, Ezequiel Carrera driving Junior Lake in with a triple.

And we were only able to score one run against a rather lousy Tigers' bullpen. That came on a Devon Travis home run, that tied the game in the 7th.

Unfortunately, Jason Grilli gave up a Victor Martinez home run in the top of the 8th, untying the game.

Aaron Sanchez had a bit of a tough game, but he limited the Tigers to 2 runs over 5 innings. He allowed just 5 hits (one a pop fly that Lake should have been able to catch), 2 walks, 1 bases loaded hit batter with 4 strikeouts. He did get some good defense. Carrera made a great throw, from left field, getting Martinez at the plate.

Joe Biagini pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief and Drew Storen pitched an excellent 1-2-3 inning.

Jays of the Day: Biagini (.110 WPA) and Travis (.103).

Suckage: Grilli (-.198), Tulo (-.174 on an 0 for 4), Saunders (-.113 on an 0 for 2), Martin (-.108, 1 for 4, 2 k) and Barney (-.102,0 for 3, but that doesn't count the terrific defensive play he made in the 7th, fielding a grounder at third and throwing to second to get a tag out of Andrew Romine).

The good news, after the game it was announced that Aaron Sanchez would be going to the All-Star game. Very happy for him, he deserves it.
