The news on Josh Donaldson continues to trend worse as general manager Ross Atkins announced today that Donaldson will undergo an MRI on his right hip.

September has been a horrible month so for Donaldson. Before missing time this week, he was mired in a career worst seven game hitless streak which includes an 0-23 string at the plate. Add everything together, and Donaldson doesn’t have a hit since September 3. The loss of his production has been a huge part of this team’s recent slide.

Donaldson hasn’t played since Sunday. The team says the third baseman jammed his right hip in that game against the Red Sox and they haven’t seen improvement with treatment over the last couple of days. This led to the decision to conduct the MRI this afternoon. As poor as Donaldson looked at the plate in the week leading up to Sunday however, you have to wonder if that hip hasn’t been 100 percent for a while now.
