The Jays have made a couple of minor deals today:
- Gregorio Petit was signed to a minor league contract with a spring invite.
- Juan Graterol was claimed on waivers, Leonel Campos gets DFAed to make room.
Petit is 32. He’s played 171 MLB games, spread over 5 seasons, and 4 teams, the A’s, Astros, Yankees and Angels. He has a .239/.291/.353 batting line with 4 home runs. He’s split time between 2B, SS, 3B and outfield. He gives as a little more depth in the infield. He’d be ok as a utility infielder, but Darwin Barney has a $2.9 million contract.
Graterol is 27, a right-handed hitting catcher. He played 9 games for the Angels in 2016, hitting .286/.286/.429. He played 68 games for Salt Lake, the Angels Triple A team, hitting .300/.340/.370 with 2 home runs. In 527 career minor league games he hit .270/.320/.335.
The Jays claimed Campos off waivers from the Padres, back in November. He’s a right-handed pitcher who threw 22 innings for the Padres, in 2016, with a 6.55 ERA, with 14 walks and 24 strikeouts. He had a 4.50 ERA in 50 Triple A innings, with 30 walks and 62 strikeouts. Lots of strikeouts, lots of walks.
