We all knew this, but Nick Cafardo tells us that Jay Bruce “is expected to draw interest from the Jays”. The Jays have been trying to pick up Bruce for the last several years and, since he is a free agent, I’m sure his agent will be getting calls from the Jays.
Bruce had 36 home runs and a .254/.324/.508 batting line, splitting time between the Mets and Cleveland.
He’d be an improvement from the players we had playing left field last year, but he’ll be 31 and he’s coming off his best season since 2013.
Cafardo also figures the Jays could be in on right-handed starter Alex Cobb and right-handed reliever Addison Reed. The Reed one I find hard to believe, but he is an excellent reliever. He also says the Jays could look at Eduardo Nunez too. I like the idea of a guy who could play middle infield and corner outfield spots and could hit.
Yes we are in rumor season.
