Dalton Pompey left WBC game with dizziness

Dalton Pompey came out of today’s Team Canada loss to Colombia with ‘mild dizziness’. He had a rather awkward, head first slide into second on a steal and banged his face into the ground.

When he got up, his eyes didn’t look right to me, but he stayed in to run the bases (not that he got any further than second) and played the defensive half of the inning, before being removed.

It doesn’t seem like baseball takes these injuries seriously enough, he really didn’t look right when he was at second. Manager Ernie Whitt said “Pompey said he was fine and so, we go from there.” Ummmm no, we don’t just believe the player. Baseball (and most other sports) seems to still just think ‘bell rung send him back out there’.

Pompey will have to be tested before tomorrow’s game to see if he can play.

I’m sure you all remember that Pompey had a concussion last year, which kept him out of the lineup for several weeks.

I hope this doesn’t hold him back this spring. I’d really like Dalton to get a chance to show what he can do in the majors.
