Our last spring game in Florida. And a loss.
J.A. Happ made his last spring appearance. He went 4 innings, allowed 2 hits, 1 earned, no walks and 2 strikeouts. They cut back on his pitch count a little, so he’ll be fresh for his first start. A nice way to end his spring.
Other pitchers:
- Mike Bolsinger: 1 inning, 3 hits, 2 earned, 2 walks, 1 strikeout. He had some bad luck, all three hits were infield hits, but then he doesn’t miss many bats. He cost himself by not covering first on a ground ball to the first base side. Barney made the play and threw to first, but Bolsinger wasn’t there. Has a 4.26 ERA this spring. On the bubble for a roster spot.
- Roberto Osuna: 1 inning, 1 k. 0.00
- Dominic Leone: 1 inning, 1 hit, 1 k. 3.09.
- Andrew Case: 1 inning, 1 hit, 1 k. 0.00.
- Geno Encina: 1 inning, 2 hits, 1 k. 0.00.
Hitters:
- Melvin Upton: 0 for 3. He had two hard hit line drives that found gloves. .188. I wonder if the Jays are considering cutting him?
- Troy Tulowitzki: 1 for 1, double, walk. .294.
- Jose Bautista: 0 for 2, k. .414. He started the spring great, hasn’t been as hot of late.
- Jarrod Saltalamacchia: 0 for 3. .242.
- Justin Smoak: 2 for 3, double, k. .224. He’s had a good little stretch, 6 for his last 15 with 3 doubles and 1 home run. No I don’t think it means much, but he does have the odd hot stretch.
- Darwin Barney: 1 for 3. .233.
- Ezequiel Carrera: 1 for 2, walk. .257.
- Gregorio Petit: 3 for 3. .333.
- Ryan Goins: 0 for 3, k. .170. He played a few innings of right field. Both he and Barney have played some outfield this spring. Good idea, their utility infielder will have to play some emergency innings in the outfield.
