The Blue Jays have picked up Ty Kelly, from the Mets, off waivers.

Kelly is a switch hitter, who has played some of everything in 8 minor league seasons. He’s spent most of his time at second, third and outfield. In those 8 seasons, he’s played in several different systems (even the Blue Jays for some of 2015),

Ty has played 40 major league games, all with the Mets, hitting .237/.347/.339 with 1 home run, 11 walk with 10 strikeouts.

In 901 minor league games he has a .280/.381/.380 batting line. so no power, but gets on base ok. He has 524 walks and 526 strikeouts in the minors.

He’ll be depth for the Jays, likely playing in Buffalo. The Jays are paper thin at several positions.

To make room the team is moving Glenn Sparkman from the 10-day to the 60-day DL. You’ll likely remember that Glenn broke his thumb this spring. I didn’t think the injury was bad enough to get him onto the 60-day DL, but it really doesn’t hurt the Jays for him to stay on the DL longer. When he comes off, he’ll be sent on a rehab assignment, and I’m sure the Jays will use every day of the 30 they are allowed. They like his DL andrehab to take them to September, when active rosters expand.
