The Jays have placed J.A. Happ on the 10-day DL and have called Ty Kelly up from Buffalo.
Kelly is a switch hitter, who has played some of everything in 8 minor league seasons. He’s spent most of his time at second, third and outfield. In those 8 seasons, he’s played in several different systems (even the Blue Jays for some of 2015),
Ty has played 40 major league games, all with the Mets, hitting .237/.347/.339 with 1 home run, 11 walk with 10 strikeouts.
In 901 minor league games he has a .280/.381/.380 batting line. so no power, but gets on base ok. He has 524 walks and 526 strikeouts in the minors.
The Jays will have to make more moves to bring up starters for Friday and Saturday’s games.
Also, Shi Davidi tells us that Aaron Sanchez has had part of the nail removed from his middle finger to help with the blister problems he’s been having. I’m not sure how that helps, other than giving him a pain that will make the blister seem far less troublesome.
And, in non-Jays news, Pirates outfielder Starling Marte has been suspended 80 games for a performance-enhancing drug, Nandrolone. Not good news for the Pirates.
