Jays put Troy Tulowitzki on DL

Jays call up Leonel Campos, send down Danny Barnes

Troy Tulowitzki has been put on the 10-day DL with hamstring issues. I don’t think that’s a surprise to anyone. I hope he isn’t out for long.

Leonel Campos has been called up. He’s not on the 40-man, so someone would have had to be dropped, but I don’t know who at the moment.

And, with Casey Lawrence also added to the active roster, Danny Barnes is on his way back to Buffalo. Thank you for the great pitching, here is your plane ticket.

Campos pitched 8 innings, for us, this spring. He allowed 6 hits, 3 earned, 4 walks with 10 strikeouts.

Matt wrote this when we claimed Campos off waivers:

Campos is 29, a right-handed pitcher. He was signed as an international free agent from Venezuela in 2010, at the fairly ripe age of 22. He made just one appearance in 2011 before requiring Tommy John surgery which wiped out all of 2012. He split 2013 across low-A and AA, dominating both levels with high strikeout rates. He did some starting in 2014, with poor results across AA and AAA (6.34 ERA) but with strong strikeout numbers earning him a September call-up.

In all, he's only pitched 30 major league innings, with the majority of that coming this past year. He sports a career 5.70 ERA, with a solid 34 strikeouts but also 19 walks. He's currently pitching for Aguilas de Zulia of the Venezuelan Winter League (4 innings, 2 runs, 3 K).

Per Brooks Baseball, Campos has relied on two pitches at the major league level, a fastball averaging 94 MPH and a slider that he uses about 40% of the time.

Today’s Lineup (I hope they score some for Casey) :

Kevin Pillar, CF

Darwin Barney, 3B

Jose Bautista, RF

Kendrys Morales, DH

Justin Smoak, 1B

Steve Pearce, LF

Devon Travis, 2B

Salty, C

Ryan Goins, SS

Salty is in since Martin caught 13 innings last night/this morning.
