Marcus Stroman takes the mound tonight in game one of a four game series at Tropicana Field. Devon Travis is not in the lineup, but this could just be a regular day off to give Darwin Barney a chance to play. With a ground ball specialist on the mound for the Blue Jays, and a left-handed starter on the mound for the Rays, this is an ideal opportunity to get defensively-gifted Barney into the lineup.
Blake Snell, 24, boasted a 3.54 ERA across 19 starts last season. He provides plenty of velocity from the left side, and generates tons of strikeouts in the process. Command is always the major question with Snell, as he walked over five batters per nine innings last season.
Steve Pearce will leadoff for the Jays tonight, and looks to be a terrific option thanks to a career .353 on-base percentage versus left-handed pitching. He will play in left-field once again, with Justin Smoak drawing back into the lineup over Ezequiel Carrera.
