I mentioned, on Twitter, that I expected to wake up to the news that someone was called up from Buffalo and someone was going down. Ten seconds later, I get this:
@bluebirdbanter Casey Lawrence called up from Buff

It isn’t officially announced, and it may depend on whether Lawrence can make it to the Tampa by tonight.
Lawrence was to make the opening day start for the Bisons, but now Jarrett Grube will do it.
Lawrence looked good early in spring training and then had a couple of rough outings towards the end. He pitched in 7 games, making 4 starts, with a 3.86 ERA. In 16.1 innings, he allowed 16 hits, 7 walks with 11 strikeouts.
Last year he split time between Buffalo and New Hampshire, putting up a 4.17 ERA. In in 28 starts. In 162 innings he allowed 179 hits, 37 walks with 108 strikeouts.
I’m happy he gets some major league time. He was an undrafted free agent signing, back in 2010. He made a slow but consistent climb up the minor league system.
I’d imagine he’ll the be long man out of the pen tonight.
No word on who is going down, but I’d guess it would be Dominic Leone, who pitched a strong 2.2 innings last night. He has options. I figured both he and Ryan Tepera (who pitched 2 innings of his own would be going down. And who knows, maybe there will be another move.
Welcome Casey.
If you were wondering about Buffalo’s lineup for today’s game:
