Mariners claim Casey Lawrence

This kind of surprised me. The Mariners have claimed Casey Lawrence. The Blue Jays put him on waivers to make room for Mike Ohlman.

Casey appeared in 4 games (2 starts) for the Jays and has an 8.78 ERA. In 13.1 innings he’s allowed 21 hits, 2 homers, 11 walks and 7 strikeouts.

The Mariners have 8 pitchers on the DL, including starters James Paxton, Hisashi Iwakuma and Felix Hernandez (I’m glad we aren’t the only ones with injury troubles).

With the M’s in town, for a four-game series, it is quite possible we’ll see Lawrence pitching against us.

I’ve been watching Casey’s climb up the Jays minor league system ever since we signed him as an undrafted free agent. I never thought he would make the majors, but since the team didn’t have much invested in him, they had him pitching a lot of innings. He’s pitched 974 minor league innings (including the 10 from this year).

I really wish Casey the best, except, of course, against us.
