Blue Jays activate Russell Martin from the Disabled List

The first of many important pieces for Toronto is coming off the DL

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Blue Jays have activated Russell Martin from the Disabled List and he will be playing in tonight’s game against the Orioles according to Hazel May:

The corresponding move will likely be a DFA for Mike Ohlman, but we’re still waiting on official word:

This will be a tremendous boon for the Blue Jays offense who’ve only received an .081 / .128 / .121 batting line (.249 OPS) from catchers not named Russell Martin. Martin himself was only batting .192 before weakness in his left shoulder sidelined him, but he had a .359 on base percentage to go along with three home runs and a .701 OPS; so he’ll still eliminate the black hole the catcher position was causing in the lineup.
