The season that keeps on giving.
Anthony Alford is going on the DL with a hamate fracture. That’s a bone in the wrist. Not good news because it is hard to swing a bat with a hurting wrist. I’d imaine it will take a bit of time for him to get back playing.
The day after he gets his first MLB hit. Life isn’t fair. He hit that ball hard too.
Dwight Smith Jr gets the call up to replace Alford on the roster. You’ll remember Smith was up earlier, had 4 plate appearance and had 1 walk. In Buffalo Smith was hitting .316/.368/.456 with 4 home runs, 12 walks and 26 strikeouts. He doesn’t have the speed of Alford, but he does have 4 steals.
I’d like the Jays to get him some playing time before he gets sent back down, likely when Tulo and Donaldson come back.
I don’t know when Alford hurt himself, but his last swing looked awkward, when he struck out in the 9th.
Welcome back Dwight (great name). Get well quick Anthony.
