That was a short stint in the majors.
Dwight Smith got to Milwaukee early this morning. Had a pinch hit double and now he’s on his way back to Buffalo.
It almost looks like the Jays are serious about bringing Troy Tulowitzki and/or Josh Donaldson back for this weekend’s games. Wouldn’t that be nice. I’d love to see us back to, more or less, full stretch on offense.
If both are coming back, someone else will have to be sent out. I’d guess Chris Coghlan. He had 2 hits today, bringing his average up to .219, but he’s not been of much value on defense. And I think Goins and Barney are higher up on the utility player depth chart. I guess they could surprise us by releasing J.P. Howell, but I’d doubt they will drop a pitcher.
I would have liked to see Dwight get into a few games. Maybe next time he’s called up.
In other roster news, the Jays say Anthony Alford will be out 4-6 weeks with the broken bone in his hand. From there....who knows how long it will be before he is able to swing a bat without pain.
