Today’s Blue Jays lineup contains a surprise name. Dwight Smith is playing in LF and Ezequiel Carrera isn’t listed on the bench.
It seems likely that Carrera has gone on the DL. He was talking to training George Poulis on the bench last night. I have no idea what the injury might be.
Smith was up once earlier this season. He had 5 PA, 1 double, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. At Buffalo he is hitting .303/.364/.443 with 6 home runs, with 20 walks and 34 strikeouts.
I hope Gibby keeps putting his name in the lineup, but it’s possible he might sent out again when Steve Pearce is activated this weekend. I’m hoping not.
I was hoping Smith would get a real shot at showing what he can do. I'm sure he'll be better defensively than Ezequiel. I'd rather watch Smith than see Chris Coghlan out there in left.
Update: Carrera has a foot fracture. No idea the timeline, but I'm sure it will be more than 10 days.
