I’m very curious to see who the Jays will call up tomorrow. They never bring up as many players as I’d like to see, but then, I don’t have to try to find a role for each. I don’t see why we don’t bring up a bunch of guys and let them get a feel for the majors and make a few extra bucks.
Catchers:
Luke Maile will be activated from the DL. He might not be able to hit, but he can catch and throw.
Danny Jansen? I’m sure the team won’t do it, but I’d consider it, as much for a reward for a great year as anything else. But, going from A to the majors, in one season is likely pushing it. The team could also let him finish the Bisons season and then come up after that.
Infielders:
If I was Gibby, I’d really want another middle infielder (or two), because I really would want to be able to pinch hit for the ones I have. Travis and Tulo aren’t going to be back. We have two on the 40-man:
Lourdes Gurriel: He isn’t hitting, .248/.289/.373 in New Hampshire, but he’s played both second and short this year. And, let’s face it, he can’t hit any worse than Barney.
Richard Urena: Again, he isn’t hitting, .246/.285/.358, again in New Hampshire. He’s played a few games at second this year. I’d want at least one of them, I don’t care which. But, I’m guessing that the Jays won’t take either.
Outfielders:
Darrell Ceciliani and Dalton Pompey are on the DL.
Teoscar Hernandez: The team has said he is coming up.
Anthony Alford: He’s hitting .308/.393/.396, this month, in New Hampshire. I really don’t see any reason not to bring him up, so I guessing the Jays won’t. For me he comes up to pinch run and be a defensive replacement, if nothing else.
Dwight Smith is having a rough month in Buffalo, hitting .207/.327/.253 in August and Harold Ramiez isn’t hitting at New Hampshire, ..261/.313/.356. We have enough for outfielders so I’d stick with Hernandez and Alford.
Pitchers:
Nick Tepesch and Leonel Campos haven’t had 10 days since they were optioned, so we’ll have a wait a bit for them. And Cesar Valdez is on the DL so we won’t see him tomorrow.
Chris Rowley is the only one that Gibby said will be coming up.
Carlos Ramirez has had such a good season, I’d think the Jays would like to see what he can do in the major. Our pen hasn’t been good of late, it would be nice to see if Carlos can get outs. He’s pitched 14 innings in Buffalo, allowed 6 hits, 3 walks with 16 strikeouts.
Ryan Borucki: I’m expecting that they will let him finish out the Bison’s season and maybe call him up after that.
And I’m hoping Aaron Sanchez can join the pen at some point in September.
If it was me, tomorrow Gibby would have: Maile, Jansen, Gurriel, Urena, Hernandez, Alford, Rowley and Ramiez added to the roster. I’m guessing the team brings up just Maile, Hernandez and Rowley. Maybe Ramirez.
What would you do? And what do you think the team will do?
