The Blue Jays made a trade with the Cardinals sending pitching prospect Conner Greene and reliever Dominic Leone to St. Louis for 26-year old outfielder Randal Grichuk.
Grichuk is a right-handed hitter, he’s played all three outfield positions. In four seasons with the Cardinals he’s hit .249/.297/.488 with 66 home runs in 404 games. I’m not thrilled with picking up an outfielder who doesn’t get on base much. He’s pretty good defensively. He has a career 12.9 UZR/150 in left, 3.5 in center and 7.3 in right.
Conner Green was #7 on our Top 40 prospect list last year. He didn’t have a great 2016 season, going 5-10, with a 5.83 ERA in 26 games, 25 starts in New Hampshire. He had 92 strikeouts and 83 walks in 132.2 innings.
Dominic Leone we picked up off waivers before last season. He had a very good season for us, putting up a 2.56 ERA with 23 walks and 81 strikeouts in 70.1 innings.
