The Blue Jays have invited 13 of their minor leaguers to the major league spring training camp. This is just a list of the ones coming to camp who aren’t on the 40-man roster.
Pitchers invited are Andrew Case, Jose Fernendez, Chad Girodo, Jon Harris, Sean Reid-Foley, Jordan Romano, Chris Rowley and Justin Shafer.
Batters:
Catcher: Max Pentecost.
Infielders: Jason Leblebijian and Tim Lopes.
Outfielders: JD Davis and Roemon Fields.
I figured there might be more catchers, but then we have 4 on the 40-man roster. They need a bunch of catchers to catch all the pitchers who will be around. Odds are there will be a minor league signing or two, who will be invited to camp too.
I don’t know how they pick who they invite, some get it as a reward for a good minor league season. Some because they want to get used to the major league experience (Reid-Foley). Some because they have a shot to make the team. Some just to fill out numbers.
Pitchers and catchers report February 14. The rest arrive on the 19th. Spring games start on the 23rd. I can’t wait.
