The fate of Yangervis Solarte and Devon Travis will be decided by tonight, one way or another.
And while we are discussing non tendering candidates, here are the others from each MLB team. Shall we have a reunion with Liam Hendriks if the A’s don’t keep him?
Jordan Romano just won 2018 Canadian Baseball Network’s minor league pitcher of the year award. This great piece by Danielle Obal explains why.
In major trade news the Mariners and Mets are close to a blockbuster deal that would see All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano and closer Edwin Diaz move to the Mets in exchange for several top prospects as well as veteran outfielder Jay Bruce and maybe reliever Anthony Swarzak. The prospects in the deal are thought to to be OF Jarred Kelenic and pitcher Justin Dunn, while the fifth player might be reliever Gerson Bautista.
Its fair to say that there are some interesting thoughts on the possible trade:
Reasons this could be the quickest waiving of a no-trade in history: 1. Cano loves NY 2. He wants to play 2B (in Seattle he might play 1B) 3. He’d work for his former agent Brodie Van Wagenen 4. He’d leave a turmoil ridden team that recently was accused of anti-Latin bias

A possible Plan B for the Mets could've been:

Sign Andrew Miller or Craig Kimbrel.
Keep the prospects.
Avoid more significant risk.
But Jeff Passan seems to like it:
I've been pretty stunned at the negative reaction to the Mets' proposed Edwin Díaz-Robinson Canó trade for one reason.

I like it.

Meanwhile the other team in New York are in trade talks with Miami Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto. I said a few weeks ago the Yankees would get Realmuto just to pee us all off. So blame me if it happens.
Realmuto is maybe the best catcher in baseball and hit .277/.340/.484 with a career-high 21 home runs and 74 RBI in 2018. Lets compare that to Gary Sanchez who hit a paltry .186/.291/.406 with 18 home runs and 53 RBI in an injury-plagued campaign.
Realmuto has hit at least .277 each of the last three seasons and his power numbers are rising. He is also has a defensive dynamic Sanchez doesn’t have. I.e he can block a ball, which seems a fairly fundamental skill to have as a catcher..
Apparently the Marlins are keen to take Sanchez. Gary will like it there. He and Don Mattingly can chat about how they used to play for the Yankees and....HOW THE HELL DID WE END UP AT THE MARLINS?? THEY ARE GARBAGE! I MEAN, THEY HAVE NO REDEEEMING QUALITIES AND THEY HAVE AN ABOMINATION OF A STADIUM. AND DON’T START ME ON THEIR SODDING MASCOT BILLY....!!!
(Martin steps away from keyboard for a few minutes).
And to end, could MLB expand into Portland in Oregon? (a lovely thought) - if it does, it might well look something like this.
