The Winter Meeting are over and the Jays were pretty quiet for most of it. We did however leave Las Vegas with Elvis...
OFFICIAL: We've selected RHP Elvis Luciano from the @Royals in the @MLB phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

Welcome, Elvis! pic.twitter.com/AEUaLae7L3
We did lose Canadian right-hander Jordan Romano in the selection process, as well as lefty Travis Bergen, who went to San Francisco with the ninth pick.
Here is why the Jays think Luciano presents a unique opportunity.
We didn’t add anyone of note so its only fair to look at what our biggest needs are to be filled:
Relief pitching - we need another lefty other than Tim Mayza, a set up man (i dont cosider Tepara one but that’s just me) and generally more help in this department.
Back-up shortstop- because right now its Richard Urena backing up Lourdes Gurriel Jr. I dont have too much confidence in Urena if something happens to our Lourdes.
Starting pitching- we need at least one, and ideally two more starting pitchers. Maybe more if we lose Sanchez and Stroman. With a few more starters off the table now we are looking at mid tier players like Wade Miley, Trevor Cahill or Mike Fiers.
Talking of Stroman, he has been making it clear how much he loves Toronto:
Canadian cultured from time. Can’t wait for season. No better feeling than taking the mound in the Rogers Centre every 5th day. Missing that vibe from the city. Excited to put on for y’all this year! #HDMH pic.twitter.com/39sQmbl7Wy

This doesn’t mean he wont be traded, at least he shouldn’t be unless we get a reaonsable return.
Here is some more form the Winter Meetings:
The 7 teams likely to make the next big moves (Philly and their silly money are No.1)
Here are the top 5 takeaways from the Winter Meetings (NB this des not mention food sorry)
The top needs for all 30 MLB clubs
And a very Happy Birthday to one of my absolute favourite non Jays player: Hall of Famer Astros 2B Craig Biggio.
Biggio was a 7 time All Star, won 4 Gold Gloves and 5 Silver Sluggers. He was part of the famous ‘Killer B’s’ line up for the Astros alongside Jeff Bagwell for over a decade.
I loved his energy and hustle and how he worked hard every game. And he was a pretty good hitter too. Happy Birthday Craig- here is hoping Cavan turns out to be half the player you were.
Here is his HOF biography.
