Not all Christmas presents are big ones. Some are socking stuffers. I had a friend that always asked for white socks because she knew she was going to get them, so why not get ahead of the game.

Robert Murray, from the Athletic, tells us that the Jays have signed former A’s and Brewers infielder Eric Sogard to a minor league deal.

Sogard has played 8 MLB seasons, 6 with the A’s, 2 with the Brewers. He has a career .238/.309/.314 batting line in 584 games. His best season was 2017, when he hit .273/.393/378 with 45 walks and 37 strikeouts in 94 games.

Sogard has played second, short and third base in the majors, as well as a little left field. He’s no bad defensively, as you might expect from that career batting line, his defense is what got him to the majors. He has a career 2.5 UZR/150 at second. His numbers at short aren’t as good -6.2 career.

They were looking for a veteran middle for depth. I’m sure this won’t be the only minor league signing of the winter.
