Blue Jays rumors: Jays and Padres talking Stroman?

It’s been awhile since we had a rumor.

But Jon Morosi tells us that the Blue Jays and the Padres are discussing a Marcus Stroman trade.

The Padres have a good minor league system. Morosi tells us we wouldn’t get one of their very top prospects but they have some pitching prospects they might part with:

While San Diego’s most elite prospects -- Fernando Tatis Jr., MacKenzie Gore and Francisco Meija -- likely won’t be sent to the Blue Jays if a deal is completed, pitching prospects Michel Baez and/or Logan Allen could be involved.

Baez is their number 7 prospect (by MLB Pipeline). Baez pitched in High A last year, putting up a 3.32 ERA in 17 starts. In 86.2 he allowed 73 hits, 33 walks and 92 strikeouts. He was number 28 on Baseball America’s top 100 prospects before the season.

Allen is the Padres’ number 8 prospect. He split last year between Double and Triple A. He had a 2.54 ERA in 24 starts. In 148.2 inning he allowed 110 hits, 51 walks and 151 strikeouts.

I think I’d prefer Chris Paddack, but we’ll see. Here are his numbers.

Of course, Fernando Tatis would be the choice. He was number 9 on Baseball America’s top 100 prospect.

As much as I want some news, I’m really not in any rush to lose Marcus. I’d need some good talent coming back. I’ll admit, I’m a believe it when it happens type on these things.
