Blue Jays sign Seung-hwan Oh

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Robert Murray of Fan Rag Sports tweeted that the Blue Jays have an agreement with right-handed pitcher Seung-hwan Oh.

Oh pitched for the Cardinals the last two season. He had a terrific 2016 season, putting up a 1.92 ERA in 76 games, with 19 saves. 2017 wasn’t quite as good, 4.10 ERA in 62 games with 20 saves.

In total, batters hit .233/.281/.357 with 15 home runs, 33 walks and 157 strikeouts in 139 innings. FanGraphs tells us he throws a 93.3 MPH fastball, throwing it about 60% of the time, and a 85 MPH slider he throws about 30% of the time, with an occasional change up thrown in.

An earlier agreement with the Rangers fell apart because of a issue found in an MRI. The Jays will have their own physical before the deal is official.

The front office has been saying they were looking to add to the bullpen. Oh could be a nice pickup. And, his name is easy to spell.

Update:

Ben Nicholson-Smith tells us that the deal with Seung-hwan Oh will guarantee him $2 million and has a vesting option for 2019.
