No details yet, but Ken Rosenthal tweets that the Blue Jays have signed John Axford.
Update: It is a minor league deal, with a spring training invite.
Axford is a 34-year-old (he’ll be 35 April 1st), right-handed reliever, born in Simcoe Ontario.
He’s had a 9-year career, has a 3.71 ERA in 493 games, with 144 saves. He had a rough season last year, 6.43 ERA in 21 innings, with 17 walks and 21 strikeouts. For the few years before that he’s had ERAs around 4. Walks have been a problem, he’s given up a walk every other inning, on average, in his career.
We’ll add when we know more, I’m presuming he’s getting a 1-year contract.
