The Blue Jays picked up Sam Gaviglio from the Royals, for cash or a player to be named.
Sam is a 27-year-old, right-handed pitcher. 2017 was his rookie year, he split time between the Royals and the Mariners, pitching in 16 games, 13 starts. He had a 4.36 ERA in 74.1 innings. He allowed 76 hits, 16 home run, 26 walks and 49 strikeouts. Seems like a lot of home runs, especially considering the parks he played in.
He was in the minors for 7 seasons. He pitched in 123 games, making 115 starts with a 4.03 ERA. In 664 innings, he allowed 655, 57 home runs, 173 walks and 542 strikeouts.
This spring he had a 10.29 ERA in 7 innings.
I’m guessing he’s going pick up the innings opened up because of Thomas Pannone’s suspension. He’s been optioned to the minor league camp already.
To make room for Gaviglio, Matt Dermody has been DFAed.
