The Blue Jays have made some roster moves.
Al Alburquerque, Rhiner Cruz, Chad Girodo, Deck McGuire, and Luis Santos have all be sent to the minor league camp.
Early in spring, Santos looked to get the ‘long relief’ role in the pen, but he ran through a stretch of bad appearances and lost his chance.
Girodo was in the battle for the second lefty role. He’s had a good spring, 9 innings, 1 earned, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. But it appears the team will go with just one lefty, Loup and consider Danny Barnes and Tyler Clippard quasi-lefties.
McGuire also had a very good spring. He had a 0 ERA in 10.2 innings, just 5 hits, 1 walk and 13 strikeouts. I’d imagine he’ll be a starter in the minors, looking to be ready if a starting job opens up.
Alburquerque had a good spring as well, 3.38 ERA, 1 walk, 12 k in 8 innings.
Tim Mayza will make the trip to Montreal, along with John Axford and Tyler Clippard. It seems pretty sure that Axford and Clippard will get the last two spots in the pen.
