The Blue Jays have signed Nick Tepesch to a minor league. He doesn’t get an invite to the major league spring camp.
Tepesch, you’ll likely remember, came to the Jays in a trade from the Twins, with the Twins getting cash in return. Nick pitched 18 innings for Buffalo, with a 2.00 ERA, 14 hits just 1 walk and 14 strikeouts.
And he made 3 starts for the Jays, putting up a 5.14 ERA. In 14 innings, he allowed 17 hits, 5 home runs, 7 walks and 7 strikeouts.
It’s a move to fill out our minor league pitching staffs, and add a little to our depth. I’m wondering if he will start the season in Buffalo or New Hampshire.
He’s not a hard thrower. Fangraphs says he averaged 89.3 on his fastball, and has a slider, curve and occasional changeup.
And, Ezequiel Carrera clears waivers and was outrighted to Buffalo, so he’s still in the system, so we may yet see him again.
