The Blue Jays have put Kendrys Morales on the 10-day DL and called up Tim Mayza to take his roster spot.
Morales suffered a hamstring sprain in his right leg last night (Jays PR initially said left leg).
We figured they would bring a pitcher up, though I figured it would be someone who could throw 2-3 innings at go, since the bullpen has been worked pretty hard in the first 11 games of the season. Mayza, a left-hander was up and down a couple of times last year. For the Jays he pitched 17 innings, in 19 games. He had a 6.88 ERA, with 24 hits, 3 homers, 4 walks and 27 strikeouts. He either would get a strikeout or get hit hard, it seemed.
He throws hard, averaged 94.2 MPH on the fastball, and 86.5 MPH slider.
No word on how long they expect Morales to be out. I wouldn’t expect too much longer than the 10 days.
Gibby says that he will rotate the DH spot around, use it to rest players. I did wonder if he would give it to Pearce, since he’s doing great with the bat right now. I’d imagine he’ll get many of the DH at bats.
Solarte DHes, Pearce plays right. I thought, after the double by Grichuk, he might be back in the lineup today, but tough to take Pearce out right now.
