Josh Donaldson to the DL, Teoscar Hernandez Up

Earlier this morning, Tom shared John Gibbon’s hint that we might be seeing Teoscar up soon. Turns out soon meant today, and we just found out why:

Josh Donaldson’s shoulder issues haven’t been a secret, they have just been severely downplayed by the club. We were told it was just a “dead arm”, and while it clearly affected his ability to throw, he was still hitting homers. Despite the insistence that there was no pain, our suspicions over the extra day of rest have found merit.

Teoscar Hernandez has been recalled to take his space on the 25 man roster. He has had a fantastic start in Buffalo. In 18 plate appearances, he has five hits (a double and two homers), and is presently carrying a .944 OPS. While his high strikeout rate will still be an issue, he will provide some power to the line-up.

I imagine Steve Pearce will switch to primarily DH, and Hernandez will assume the 4th outfielder role. Solarte is likely to get the majority of the 3rd base starts, although I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Russell Martin there too.

Josh, please get better soon. Welcome back, Teoscar!
