Start with a reminder that tonight’s game starts half an hour earlier than normal: 6:30 Eastern.
The Blue Jays announced that Anthony Alford and Dalton Pompey have been activated off the DL and optioned to Buffalo. Alford played 6 games in Dunedin hitting .222/.364/.278 and Pompey played 4 games hitting .400/.471/.600.
At Fan Rag Sports, Jon Heyman looks at the upcoming free agent class and ranks the free agents. Josh Donaldson he puts in the $100-200 million group and says:
When he’s on the field, he’s one of the best players in the game. However, the new shoulder concern that affects only his throwing and has him on the DL could cost him quite a bit (potentially, “tens of millions,” Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic estimated in a recent column), and his age (32) is certainly a consideration. If he can’t throw, he might have to DH, which would be a considerable drag. Blackmon’s deal could provide a template.
I don’t know where he gets that the shoulder only effects his throwing. Josh hit .239/.352/.457 in 12 games this season, but for a good part of the spring and early season he was having a very hard time making solid contact. I can’t imagine how a sore shoulder wouldn’t effect hitting.
Speaking of Donaldson:
Josh Donaldson resumed throwing today and felt “great,” according to #BlueJays manager John Gibbons. Still no timeline, but says he won’t be back Saturday when first eligible.

And there is this:
Gibbons also confirmed once again that Kendrys Morales will be activated from the disabled list tomorrow. #BlueJays

I’m very curious to see what they do.
