Blue Jays Roster Moves: Grichuk to DL, Ngoepe Up

The Blue Jays have placed Randal Grichuk on the DL with a knee sprain. I wonder if he happened during that rather interesting catch yesterday.

And they are bringing up Gift Ngoepe from Buffalo. Gift started the season in Toronto, and had 1 single and 1 walk in 19 PA, with 12 strikeouts. Down in Buffalo he was hitting .160/.276/.200 with 1 double, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 29 PA.

I guess he’ll be around to be a late inning defensive replacement for the middle infielders, until Josh Donaldson is ready to be activated.

So why not Devon Travis? I guess because they wouldn’t want to bring him up and then send him back down when Josh is ready to join the team. Of course, at some point we’ll want to drop the extra arm in the bullpen.

I wasn’t a fan of Gift when he was up before, his defense didn’t look all that great and at the plate he looked much like I would.

Update:

Grichuk could be out for 3 weeks. He hurt the knee in that catch yesterday.
