The Blue Jays have announced that Josh Donaldson will join the team in Cleveland and ‘is likely’ to be activated.
Why likely? Well, they are expecting rain in Cleveland (of course, the Bringer of Rain is coming). If the games are rained out, they will likely put off activating him until Friday to buy time to decide the corresponding move.
There are a few possibilities. If Steve Pearce is still being bothered by the oblique strain, he could go on the DL.
If they don’t want to DL Pearce, odds are Gift Ngoepe would be sent out, unless they decide they would rather send Lourdes Gurriel down to get regular at bats.
Or, perhaps they will send down Carlos Ramirez and keep all the batters, but I think they will want to keep the extra arm for the double header. Carlos pitched today, but just 11 pitches, so he should be available tomorrow. Of course, there is a chance they send Ramirez down for a pitcher who could pitch more than one inning.
As well as the Donaldson move, the team will be bringing Joe Biagini up to make the start in the second game as the 26th man. Joe has made 3 starts in Buffalo, has a 5.17 ERA. In 15.2 inning, he’s allowed 15 hits, 1 homer, 5 walks and 9 strikeouts.
