More Jays Roster Moves: Dwight Smith up, Gift Ngoepe down

And the Jays lineup for game one.

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays-Media Day Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The roster moves are never ending today.

The Jays have called up Dwight Smith Jr. Gift Ngoepe goes down. Ngoepe isn’t needed anymore with Donaldson back. Now Yangervis Solarte and Lourdes Gurriel can split time at second and the utility spot. Russell Martin can also go into an infield spot in an emergency.

Why Smith over Dalton Pompey or Anthony Alford? Well, Pompey hasn’t played since Monday so something is going on there. And Alford hasn’t found his swing yet. After coming back from the DL he’s hitting .194/.265/.226 in 8 games.

Not that Dwight Smith is hitting great, .230/.329/.361 with 2 homers and 3 steals. Maybe that will be the end of the roster moves before the first game of today’s double header.

Here is the Jays lineup for game one, if they play.
