Blue Jays Get No-Hit by Canadian James Paxton

That was just lousy.

We couldn’t pitch. Well, Stroman couldn’t pitch, our bullpen pitched well.

We couldn’t field. Only one official error, but Smoak made two errors on one play (just called one error) and then messed up the ball hit at him, but Solarte at second saved him. Josh Donaldson made a bad throw. Anthony Alford dribbled a ball.

And we couldn’t hit. Underline that one.

James Paxton no hit us. Paxton just up just 3 walks, and got 7 strikeouts. The only baserunners we had were Smoak, Morales and Alford, who each took a walk.

There was really only one terrific defensive play behind Paxton. Third baseman Kyle Seager made a terrific play on a hard ground ball down the third base line, in the 7th inning. Kevin Pillar hit the ball hard, Seager dived to the line, got up quick and made a great throw to first. Russell Martin hit one to the left field wall in the 8th (I thought it was out, but then the camera work was pretty terrible on that ball). and Kendrys Morales, up next, lined one hard to center but right at the center fielder.

Congratulations Paxton. You earned that.

Marcus Stroman gave up 9 hits, 5 earned, 2 walks with 2 strikeouts in just 5 innings. There were a few cheap hits off him, and the home run he allowed was a good pitch, low and off the plate, but Mike Zunino sliced it over the wall in right.

Our bullpen pitched the last four innings without giving up a run. Tim Mayza, Jake Petricka, Aaron Loup and John Axford did a good job (well Mayza gave up a hit and a walk, while just getting two outs).
