Blue Jays Roster Moves: Grichuck and Diaz Activated

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Baltimore Orioles Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

We get the return of two players off the Blue Jays disabled list. Shi Davidi is reporting that Randal Grichuk and Aledmys Diaz will return to the roster today.

Grichuk was out with a knee sprain suffered back on April 29th. At the time he was hitting .106/.208/.227. Grichuk was 5 for 21 in 7 rehab games, split between Dunedin, New Hampshire and Buffalo, good for a .238/.429/.524 line.

I’m hoping he’ll be playing in right field again, I’m tired of Teoscar’s defensive stylings in the field.

Diaz hurt his ankle in a ugly looking moment running over first base. I didn’t think he would be back so soon. At the time he was hitting .216/.273/.431. He hit .400/.400/.700 in 3 rehab starts in New Hampshire.

It will be nice to have his defense at short.

No word on who is going down yet, but it is pretty safe to guess that Dwight Smith will be going to Buffalo and, likely Gio Urshela will be DFAed. Or at least that’s what I’d do. Update... Half right, Smith and Jake Petricka are headed to Buffalo.

In other news, Gibby said, on MLB Radio, that Josh Donaldson would be back in the lineup and back playing third base tonight.
