Blue Jays roster moves: Pearce, Gaviglio back, Gurriel down, Barnes DL

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

There are a couple of names added to tonight’s lineup card and a couple of names missing.

Steve Pearce has been activated from the DL and Sam Gaviglio from the Paternity List. And Lourdes Gurriel, Jr is on their way to Buffalo. Barnes is going on the DL with knee tendinitis.

Pearce last played May 3rd. He was hitting .273/.333/.485 in 22 games. He hit .364/.533/.636 in 4 rehab games. Pearce is going to play left field tonight. I don’t really see the point in having both him and Morales on the roster, but maybe Pearce will have a good few games and make himself interesting to a contending team.

Gaviglio could start Sunday. He has a 3.75 ERA in 8 games, 6 starts.

Gurriel hit a home run last night (2 hits and 2 strikeouts in 4 at bats_and I’d much rather have him than Gio Urshela.

It seems unfair to send out Barnes, but he’s had a rough time of it lately. In his last 3 appearances he’s allowed 4 hits, 4 earned, 4 walks with 1 strikeout over 3 innings. Joe Biagini was my guess for pitcher going out, he hasn’t been much better, allowing 6 hits, 2 earned, 0 walks with 3 strikeouts in 4.2 innings over his last 3 games.

Ignore all that, Barnes is going on the DL not to Buffalo.

Tonight’s Blue Jays lineup.
