Blue Jays Roster Moves: Estrada DL, Dwight Smith up

No surprise, the Blue Jays have place Marco Estrada on the DL, retroactive to last Tuesday the 10th, and Dwight Smith Jr. gets called up again.

Estrada will be able to come off the DL for the first series back after the All-Star break, against the Orioles.

Smith has had 34 plate appearances with the Jays this year. He hit .300/.382/.533 with a home run, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. With the Bisons he’s hitting .249/.351/.358 with 3 home runs, 33 walks and 36 strikeouts. He’s not exactly in a hot stretch, hitting .219/.212/.313 in his last 8 games.

I’m not sure how long Smith will be up, we might want a starter for tomorrow’s game. Thomas Pannone, Chris Rowley and Nick Tepesch are all candidates. The International League just had their All-Star break so most of their pitchers are rested. Or they might have Sam Gaviglio start on short rest, since he didn’t throw a lot of pitches in his last start. .

Tonight’s lineup. No surprise that Justin Smoak gets a half day off, DHing today, after being pulled from yesterday’s game with a leg issue. Kendrys Morales plays first. Lourdes Gurriel plays short and bats second tonight.
