Blue Jays add two players to the DL and take two players off the DL
Lourdes Gurriel goes on the 7-day concussion DL. We were arguing about whether he should have come out of yesterday’s game after the kick to the head. I’m on the side of caution all the time with those things, especially since we’ve seen the team make mistakes before by leaving guys guys in who turned out to be concussed. I’ll hope Lourdes turns out not to be too bad and he can come back after the 7 days.
I don’t know if we give Lourdes a break on his error last night, considering this news, but I’m hoping that, in the future, any doubt we pull the player from the game.
Kevin Pillar apparently has his arm in a sling. They are calling it an SC joint sprain. I have no idea how long to expect him to be out. I’m hoping we get to see Anthony Alford or Dalton Pompey after the break and that they get a good bit of playing time.
Update: The Jays are saying Pillar will be reevaluated in 3 weeks, so he’ll be missing for a long stretch.
With only 1 game before the All-Star break the Jays are activating two pitchers from the DL. Ryan Tepera and Jaime Garcia are going to join the crowd in the visitor’s bullpen at Fenway.
By my count we should have 11 batters and 14 pitchers on the active roster for today’s game: One extra outfielder and one extra catcher. Martin will be the spare ‘infielder’ should anyone be hurt. If Marcus Stroman wasn’t starting, I’d be placing bets on him getting to play a position at some point today.
After the break there will be more shuffling.
Today’s lineup. 11 in the pen.
