Blue Jays mid-term report card: Grade J.A. Happ’s first half

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

I’m not a big fan of the All-Star game, but I was happy to see J.A. Happ get into it and get his first ever save.

For some reason I thought he made the All-Star team when he finished with that 20-4 record, but we had 4 other All Stars that year.

Happ was having an excellent first half, until July 1. After his June 29th start he had a 10-3 record and a 3.62 ERA. His three July starts haven’t gone well, 0-3 and a 9.75 ERA.

In total he has a 4.29 ERA with a 10-6 record.

He has a 4.02 FIP and a 3.75 xFIP.

FanGraphs has him at a 1.7 WAR.

He has 8 Quality Starts in his 19 start this season.

In the 2 and a half seasons since the start of his second go round with the team he has a 40-21 record and a 3.57 ERA in 76 starts.
