Blue Jays Roster Moves: Richard Urena Called Up

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at New York Mets Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

We knew the Blue Jays had at least one roster move coming today. Chris Rowley was sent out to Buffalo after the last game before the break. Today the Jays are bringing up Richard Urena again.

Urena has had 19 PA with the Jays this year, hitting .278/.278/.444 with 1 home run. In Buffalo he is hitting .235/.259/.343 with 2 home runs. 6 walks and 31 strikeouts.

He’s not likely to be here for long, Lourdes Gurriel was running on the field at Rogers Centre this afternoon. He can come off the DL on Sunday. I’m doubting Urena adds much to his PA total this time up.

I thought we might bring up an outfielder, to fill the hole left by Kevin Pillar, but I guess we are going with 13 pitchers and 12 bats. I’d love to see one of the outfield prospects get a long look while Kevin is on the DL.

Here’s today’s lineups. No Machado to play against. Tim Beckham plays short for the O’s. Grichuk is in CF, Granderson in RF. And Sam Gaviglio gets the first start after the break.
