Blue Jays 1 A’s 10
That was less than exciting.
Marco Estrada pitched for the first time since July 3rd and he wasn’t effective. He went 4 innings allowed 5 hits, 4 earned, 3 walks, no strikeouts and gave up a home run. I guess we can blame the long layoff or lingering effects of his injury or maybe a blister (he did seem to be looking at a finger a fair bit) but he didn’t look good. I can’t imagine he can be traded tomorrow if anyone was scouting that game. I didn’t see anything to be encouraged about.
Offensively, we didn’t do much. Just 5 hits and 4 walks. Lots of ugly at bats. Teoscar Hernandez went 1 for 4 with 3 strikeouts. Grichuk, Morales, Drury and Maile all went 0 for.
Aldemys Diaz homered in the 9th, just to mess up my finished recap.
Aaron Loup pitched a good inning.
Jake Petricka gave up a hit and a walk but no runs in his inning.
Jaime Garcia pitched a scoreless 7th but then gave up 6 runs in the 8th, on 6 hits, 2 walk, 1 homer. It wasn’t all his fault, Teoscar dropped an easy fly ball for an error. But Garcia was hit hard.
Jays of the Day: Surprisingly Granderson had the number (.113 WPA) for a double and a walk. He had a couple of misadventures in the field, including taking a ball off the face when he made a bad dive for a ball he could never have reached.
Suckage: Estrada (-.187), Solarte (-.106. looking lost at the plate), Morales (-.092) and Teoscar for that error and the 3 strikeouts.
That was just bad, boring baseball. Minor Leaguer asked if it is time to send Teoscar to the minors. I vote yes. He’s hitting about .190 this month. His defense has gone from bad to worse. There is just nothing there that makes it look like he should be wearing a major league uniform
